Choosing Your Format: DVDs vs. USB Memory Sticks
When deciding how to preserve your precious video tapes, you have two great options: traditional DVDs or modern video files saved onto a USB memory stick. Many of my customers initially ask for DVDs because they are familiar and comfortable. However, technology has changed rapidly, and most modern televisions, laptops, and computers no longer come with DVD players built into them. I want to ensure you can easily watch your memories today and for many decades to come, which is why I offer both choices to suit your comfort level.
The Benefits of Modern USB Video Files
A USB memory stick is a small, plastic drive that holds digital video files, and it is far simpler to use than you might think. You do not need to be a computer expert to enjoy them. Today, almost every modern flat-screen television, cable box, and computer has a rectangular slot on the side or back called a USB port. You simply plug the stick into this slot, and a menu will pop up on your screen allowing you to press "play". Because these are digital files, you can also easily copy them to back them up, share them with family members online, or play them on smartphones and tablets.
Which Option is Right for You?
If you have a reliable, standalone DVD player connected to your television and you feel most comfortable using a disc and a remote control, DVDs are still a wonderful, nostalgic choice. However, if you want your videos to be future-proof and easy to share with children and grandchildren, I highly recommend the USB option. I am more than happy to walk you through how to use a USB stick on your specific home television so you can enjoy your memories with complete peace of mind.
Best of Both Worlds?
If you prefer DVD but would like the reassurance of having the files to future proof your footage, no problem. If you have the DVDs I happily will provide video files too and all you'll pay is the cost of the memory stick
